Affiliate Marketing Programs for Beginners

Tim and MJNew Affiliate Marketer?

In this post I will provide the new affiliate marketer some information without which he could really minimize his or her earnings for way too long, possibly even so long that they wind up dropping out. I don’t want that to happen.

So, you are new to the affiliate marketing world. You have seen all the excitement about folks making a living from their desk or kitchen table at home or from their gaming system. Instead of Call to Duty, you are playing Call to Collecting Currency.

I know I did. I remember having an epiphany one day when I was playing Mafia Wars on Facebook.

Man, I loved Mafia Wars!

I was good at it.

I was collecting billions of Mafia Wars dollars just because I was so darn clever.

But they would not take Mafia Wars bucks down at the grocery store.

Mystifying, isn’t it?

Anyways, I decided that I needed to put at least as much energy into generating real dollars as I did into Mafia Wars. I chose affiliate marketing as my business model of choice.

What Kind of Online Business?

Home Affiliate Programs

Well, as I say I knew I wanted something I could run from home, without employees and minimal overhead. I wanted something that I could deliver digitally because information is something that has no shipping costs and no time spent packaging it.

I like the concept of network marketing, but it was not where I wanted to start. Network marketing is a relationship business and I wanted a model where folks were looking for what I had to offer and sought me out, rather than me hunting for them and going through a sales process. Don’t get me wrong; sales is a perfectly honorable profession and if there were not people good at it we would still be digging a trench out back and suffering uncomfortable little mid-winter nips in sensitive areas. (I am involved in networking, but that is a tale for another telling.)

Let me be perfectly clear. I love salespeople. They bring me all kinds of neat stuff I might not otherwise know about.

Anyways, after a ton of research, it occurred to me that what I really wanted was an affiliate marketing business. Conducting marketing activities so folks who needed me could find me was my preferred business activity of choice.

This made it a matter of them telling me they wanted to buy rather than me ‘selling’ them on the idea that they needed it.

The reason for this is that it enabled me to engage in marketing in the online business space rather than having to engage in selling an individual.

People hate being sold and I intend to respect that.

One of the things that has been hammered into me by my mentors is Quit Selling. Start telling, and adding real value into your words…really helping them solve their problems and soon it becomes a game of the more you tell, the more people stick money in your pocket with a smile and a thank you.

Best Affiliate Marketing Programs

Without yet getting into any one specific program the concensus seems to be that the best affiliate programs offer the following:

  1. Digital, downloadable information and training products
  2. High commission percentages. (30% won’t get it these days. The competitive programs all have at least a good portion of their affiliate commissions in the 75% to 100% commission less any merchant fees.)
  3. Subscription products, i.e., there is a monthly charge for membership in an ongoing training or educational resource.

Why are these three characteristics important? Well, for one thing digital, downloadable information and training products require no shipping or physical handling. This minimizes your cost and makes the sales process very fast and easy for the customer. Very little impediment to getting instant gratification on your customer’s part means more sales, more repeat sales, and opportunities for future sales.

My direct mentor (he’s built half a dozen or so six figure businesses from home) said at one point this spring or summer he went through an online webinar, got excited, did the Roland of Gilead thing with his credit card …did a quick draw and pulled the trigger, so to speak… and found out there was a six week waiting period for the course to be delivered.

He cancelled the order; I cannot say I blame him.

Choosing Higher Commission Products Is Good for Your Bottom Line

High commission percentages mean each sale covers more of your monthly nut to cover expenses; so you are paid out for the month with fewer sales. Would you rather make 10 $500 sales at 100% or would you rather make 100 $50 sales at a 30% commission? If you need to do the math, go right ahead and come back when you are done. I bet you will only need to do it once.

Subscription products should be that for which you always aim. Why? Because you get paid every month and over time your monthly income will become larger than your job’s wages.

It will become not only stable, but will be arguably more stable than your job. It only takes one person to fire you from your job. If you have a stable of subscriptions of 100 or 200 folks on a good, effective product that people like what are the odds of them all cancelling at once? Zero.

That is income security.

It also means you don’t have to work every month for your bill paying money. Once you get your base expenses covered everything you are actively working on will be to generate a raise.

Would that not be a hoot? You can give yourself a raise anytime it suits you.

All you have to do is decide you want one.

Now, I want you to click here and watch this short training video. Yes, there are what I call actionable items on which you will be able to act immediately.

Regards.

Affiliate Marketing for Dummies: A Simple 4 Step System for Affiliate and Network Marketers

Affiliate Marketing for Dummies

Being in business for yourself gives you more opportunities to enjoy life.
Being in business for yourself gives you more opportunities to enjoy life.

For dummies is not really a title I like, but the SEO I performed for this article indicated it was something for which people searched on a regular basis, so, there you go.

No one reading this is a dummy, you are just in the same predicament any of us just starting out find ourselves. Namely, you don’t know what you don’t know.

The only solution to that problem is to strike out with a test search and see what you come up with, not unlike keyword research. You throw out a keyword into whatever keyword research tool you use and see what floats to the surface in terms of a keyword that has sufficient search numbers to make it worth your time while also being a keyword for which you can compete.

Affiliate Marketing Training

Today I am going to teach you a simple 4 step system that is so simple and straightforward that I almost guarantee that not only can you do it yourself, it will take you minutes to teach it to your folks and that is the very definition of a duplicable skillset. You can use this whether you are engaged in affiliate marketing, online network marketing, or both.

One of the key struggles on the minds of the gurus these days is whether a skillset is transferable to their distributors and affiliates. Sadly, in many cases the answer is it is not transferable, which I agree sucks big time. I am excited about this 4 step process because it is inherently transferable.

Four Step System For The Affiliate Marketing Blog and Those Involved In Online Network Marketing

The four steps to this system are:

  • Invest in courses and training.
  • Learn and internalize the information in the courses you have purchased.
  • Teach your new skillsets to those who are in business with you and those who read your blog and watch your videos.
  • Make a very definite call to action, which is to say, be very clear on what it is you want your viewers and readers to do,i.e., click on a link or go to a certain web address to learn more, etc.

Let’s Break each step down a bit as this is directed at being an affiliate marketing for beginners type of resource. Even so, I bet a lot of experienced folks who struggle with what to write about on a regular basis would be excited by such a simple system.

Why do I say that? Because if they are even a little bit experienced I bet their hard drives are absolutely packed with videos and PDFs they have bought over the years. If you find you are one of these folks, celebrate. You have a resource that will keep you in high cotton as far as things to blog about for some time.

Here we go…

http://youtu.be/2l83BqvfiAc

Step 1: Invest In You, Inc

This means you need to invest your time and money into personal growth courses, coaches, books, events, etc. When I built my Internet services provider back in the late ’90’s, I had to sit down and create a business plan. This was just a single stage because after the business plan I had to create a marketing plan, too. This meant I had to go get those skills or hire someone who had them.

Fortunately for us, the skillsets you require are specifically created for the individual who wants to run their business by him or herself. Two primers I recommend are ‘Rich Dad, Poor Dad’ by Robert Kiyosaki and ‘The 16 Laws of Success’ as told by Carnegie to Napoleon Hill.

Legend has it that Henry Ford objected to Carnegie divulging all these ‘secrets’ to the public and so ‘Think and Grow Rich’ was written as a watered down version that was ‘elite approved’ for the common man. If that makes you smoke just a little bit, you are not alone.

There are skills you need. How to write an effective article, how to do SEO, SAO and how to close and so on. These are all skillsets you need and they are worth purchasing courses on.

Step 2: Learn – Actually Go Through the Courses

The phenomena of folks buying courses and then never bothering to actually go through the things is simply one of those inexplicable things in life. People will pay $39.97, $97, even $297 for a course and never go through the thing. They don’t even bother to get a refund in most cases.

I have thought about this and have rejected the idea that it is just laziness as too simple. I think it is a bad case of desperation and holding on to hope. It is better in some of these folks minds to keep telling themselves they will get to it ‘someday’ because desperate hope to them is better than going through the course and finding they are simply not capable of doing what is required of them.

I don’t know why but the image of a rabbit going ‘tharn’ in Watership Down (I think) just occurred to me. Tharn is when a rabbit freezes up when caught in the headlights and gets run down. Tharn is a good name for a bad state of mind and I think many who fall by the wayside paralyzed by needing to hold on to an uncertain hope rather than risk knowledge of certain failure.

Geez, when that thought occurred to me I really felt badly for those folks. To be so determined that your destiny is failure that you prefer a hope held at arm’s length to actually trying must be horrible. I hate to admit it, but this very thing is what kept me from doing videos for a long time.

When I realized I was being a chicken$#!t and that people needed someone like me and you to step up and actually build an underground railroad to freedom I kind of got mad at myself.

People need to spend their lives rearing their kids and living their lives as free people rather than in some corporate hive. Many folks work in an environment where even the words you speak outside work need to be monitored so as not the be offensive to whomever that corporation is butt buddies with.

What we, you and I, do as affiliate and Internet network marketers is important in ways that go far, far beyond just making a buck.

When you buy a course, start on it that very day. Turn off the TV and get on the course you bought even if it is only for 30 minutes. How should you study?

How To Study Affiliate and Internet Marketing Courses

There is a simple system I use to study whatever it is I need to master in a short timeframe. It helped me acheive a 3.41 GPA in a biochemistry and mathematics course of study in college and it works well for me whatever the subject matter at the time may be. It is called the SQR3 method. Perhaps you have heard of it or used it.

Here is how it works. The steps are:

  1. Survey
  2. Question
  3. Read
  4. Recite
  5. Review

Survey the course you have bought. Look through the material. Read the section headings, check out the bolded or boxed material, look at whatever may be highlighted.

Question yourself as to what you think the section or chapter is trying to teach you. What is it the writer or instructor is trying to get you to understand?

Then Read the information. Grab your favorite beverage and turn off the phone, tell your sweetheart you are studying. Ask them if they need your help with something before you start and get that chore knocked out so you can focus. Then close the door and read every single word in that chapter. I find that for me, 30 – 45 minute increments seem to be best.

I also know from research on the matter that taking a teaspoon of honey at the end of the 30 minutes can increase retention for those for whom sugar is not a problem.

Recite the material out loud. Yes, indeed, read the material out loud. This involves more of the five senses increasing the number of channels through which the information flows. Your eyes are processing it. Your mouth is repeating it. Your ears are reprocessing the information again. This can do nothing but increase your long term retention of what you are studying.

This also means it becomes less something you have studied and more something that is second nature to you.

Review what it is you have learned. Think about it. Roll it around in your brain. Discuss it with whomever taught it to you or those with whom you are running to win.

Teach what you learn.

Take what you have learned and repackage it in your own words and provide it to your team. They signed on with you as either an affiliate or a distributor so it is a given they are looking to you for instruction. Going to the trouble of providing them with ongoing information that you have invested in means they are going to trust you.

Sometimes this will mean you teach them directly. Other times it will mean you refer them to a resource such as a blog post or video you have created or something they can buy, providing them with an in depth solution to their problem. People buy from people they trust and who they feel really have an interest in their success.

Why Videos

Here are a few reasons why videos work:

  1. You build a rapport over a long distance in a repeatable manner.
  2. Google loves videos and has an interest in providing link juice to folks who use YouTube as their video hosting choice. Always keep backups of your videos on your hard drive and on archival quality DVDs, too.
  3. Stats prove people like videos more than reading and blog posts with relevant videos get read more.

Simple Videos That Work

Here is an example introduction I learned from a master blogger and have used to great effect:

Hi, I’m Tim. Would you like to learn how to make better videos so you get more leads but just don’t know how? Stick around and I’ll share a simple four step system.

Share the four steps we discussed earlier, ILT it. Which is to say use the course material you have invested in and learned and teach it to your audience.

Call To Action, CTA

Then provide a call to action because they will not know what to do next unless you tell them. Ask them the following question: If you feel you got benefit from this, please comment and share.

My Calls To Action For You

Remember, your goal is to become a Master Marketer. This means all of the steps mentioned here are things that will help you become just such a Master Marketer. I know because of the results I have seen when this information is implemented in a hold nothing back manner.

Now, the above is designed to help both the affiliate marketer as well as the Internet network marketer to take advantage of all that is available to them as well as that which they have previously invested and to do so with an easy path for video creation.

If you are an Internet network marketer and need or want help with your prospecting, I want you to click here and go learn about the Top 10 Prospecting Tricks that most of the top performing men and women in our field are using right now.

The both of you should click here and check out MLSP’s Mastery program. It covers the entire height, width and depth of the various marketing channels to which we have access because of the business we are in.

Affiliate Marketing

How To Make Money From An Affiliate Website

Many folks new to affiliate marketing get in, get overwhelmed with the amount of information slung at them and leave. Sometimes, they are overwhelmed because for all the talk and video and exhortation from their upline they cannot for the life of them determine what are the actionable steps to take to make money.

How many times have you said to yourself, “Gee, that sounds wonderful but what do I do right now?

To much too fast leads to processing overload and often the new person just saying, “Thanks, but no thanks.” We don’t want that to happen to you or your folks.

First, You Have To Become An Affiliate

This part is easy. Look at the bottom of many of the pages on products and services in which you are interested and you will see a link saying something like ‘Affiliates’ or ‘Become an Affiliate Now.’ If you like their stuff many companies don’t mind giving you a cut for referrals. Fill out the form and they will send you a link. Very few do much in the way of qualifying affiliates. If they do, just chalk it up to them wanting to do right by their customers and that cannot be bad.

Past this step is where it gets dicey for the newbie affiliate marketer.

What To Do Now

First, understand that you have a learning curve to go through. Just relax and plan to spend the time. Often people just fly off at a tanget, engage in a bunch of activity they have never engaged in before and quit, angry that they even tried. I have never understood this mindset. I mean, what did you think would happen? That you would throw up some haphazard page and folks would knock you down trying to give you money? How I wish!

Understand you know nothing; resolve to change that.

Which brings us to you second step, learning.

You are going to have to get up to speed and that means reading, thinking about what you read and determining what your plan of action is going to be. This will mean either coming up with your own plan or implementing the plan of action others have used and which is known to work.

Does a resturanter start grilling in the parking lot while they are breaking ground for his building? No. Do things in order and you will have a much better result.

You have got to have a system. There are billions if not hundreds of billions of pages out there and you are trying to float to the top of the heap when someone starts looking for what you are offering.

Step 3 You have to have a system.
Understand that as a newbie, you need an integrated system. Whether you are looking at affiliate marketing or at MLM or network marketing, you have to have a system. Since you do not know how to put one together, you will have to find one.

Some Simple Steps You Can Take Now

Here are a list of things you can do that will help.

Permalink setup in WordPress

Make sure to set your WordPress to display both the category and the post name in the path. For instance, in WordPress 4.0 you would go to Settings, Permalinks and choose Custom Structure, entering in the path to look like this: http://www.yourdomain.com/%category%/%postname%/

permlink

If you are picking a particular product to promote, then it would be helpful to have the domain related to the keyword as well. If you are like me, however, and are promoting a number of products and services, then this is not critical and the previous permalink notes will do.

Use the keyword in question in your section headings.

Not every time, but scattered throughout the post. If you include the keyword you are using in every heading of your post Google might see this as keyword stuffing and penalize you in your rankings.

Some blog variants give you the option of including a 160 character description of your post. You will want to use your keyword here, of course, as well as in your tags.

Picking Your Tags

Once you have decided on a keyword, go to Google, enter it into the search box and hit enter. Down at the bottom you will see a boxed off area called ‘Searches related to . These will be your tags.

Tags

Backlinks

The importance of backlinks cannot be overestimated in making your content rank. It is as much art as it is science. You can increase your backlinks by being on other sites and having your site as part of your signature. This is entirely legitimate; everyone does it and you should, too. Your spending time on other blogs, making helpful comments will help them and it will help you, too, since each comment contains a link back to your content.

Google Keyword Planner

Google Keyword Planner is an important tool in picking how you are going to market. Not taking the time to use this or a similar tool is going to make your efforts a waste of time. Myself, I use Market Samurai. Market Samurai breaks things down into all kinds of neat analytical categories. The ones you should be concerned with are page rank and backlinks.

I want you to Click here to check out Market Samurai for yourself.

It really is a very simple matter of getting more backlinks to your content than the competition. If your toolset can get your more backlinks your ranking goes up. When picking a keyword, looking at the backlink count is an important factor to consider.

Audience Builder Pro

Another solution is Audience Builder Pro. I use it. You need to go here and check it out as it is a subscription service that provides Panda proof backlinks. By only providing quality backlinks to your content, slowly, organically, over time it helps your content to rank and rank well.

The fact of the matter is, I don’t know of another product or service out there like Audience Builder Pro. You are getting backlinks from a private, closed network of something like 3,000 blogs and Web 2.0 sites. Over time I expect to be ranking as many as 1,000 or more backlinks to each post.
